ADHD prescription drugs

I want to discuss the inadvertent results and side effects of different types of medication that are currently being used to treat ADHD. First of all, let me start by explaining what ADHD is. It stands for attention deficit hyper activiy disorder. There is also ADD, which is explained to be called attention disorder deficit. It is a disorder that is becoming very common in children today. Many of the schools are very quick to try to bully parents into labeling their children with these disorders and demanding them to be put on medications. I want everyone out there to know the pros and cons of these stimulants.

While they may help to stimulate the child into being able to sit still and think clearly these drugs can also become very addictive with time. Patients that are currently taking these stimulants need to keep track of the urge to use the medications on an irregular basis. These drugs are not only used by children but they are also used by adults who have displayed the same symptoms to help them to focus at school and work.

Some of the current stimulants that are used to help treat ADHD and ADD are," ritalin, Adderall, Strattera, Concerta, Metadate, Dexedrine, Focalin, Attenade, Paxil and Cylert". These drugs are used to help treat the effects of these two disorders, and the main thing that I want to stress to parents out there is that these are all adult drugs that are being used on childred. They may help with increasing concentration and lower hyper activiy, buy not only can they become addictive, but they have helped to turn some children into zombies. Prolonged use of any strong type of drug in children can cause long term side effects on the body. They can later develop kidney problems, liver damage, enlarged prostate and sexual dysfunctions. My advice to everyone out there is to first get all of the facts before treating anything. Get all of the information first weigh your options and then make an educated descision about it.

How MRSA becomes an outbreak

A once hospital acquired disease has turned into a widespread outbreak nationwide. This has been mainly due to negligence from healthcare workers and from patients. This disease is called MRSA which stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, which is a type of staph infection that is resistant to methicillin and other commonly used antibiotics in the same class, including penicillin, amoxicillin, and oxacillin. The reason why it is spread by the negligence of healthcare workers and patient is, because it spreads when the healthcare workers do not wash their hands before and after giving care and when patients do not keep their cuts, wounds or abrasions covered they can get infected.
This disease is also spreading in different environmental settings. It is becoming more common now that MRSA is now in day care centers and schools. The people who are at risk for getting this disease are mainly people with weakened immune systems, such as people with AIDS, pneumonia or the flu. The best thing for everyone to do is to stop this disease from spreading any further. If we all wash our hands properly, which is by washing until you finish singing the alphabet in your mind that will kill 99% of all germs.
If you have a cut, or any kind of open wound put antiseptic on it and then cover it with a bandaid or a bandage. Another suggestion for healthcare workers is keep equipment sanitized at work, always walk with hand sanitizer, and at the end of your shift you can mix a bowl of water with a drop of clorox in it and that will kill 100% of all germs. Day care providers and school teachers sanitize your toys by soaking them in a bucket or a sink full of water with a half of cup of clorox. Let the toys sit in this solution for about 10 minutes and then rinse them out and put them to dry. You can spray down the table tops with clorox spray and let it stay on there for 15 minutes and then wipe them down. Lastly, keep an eye on your students and day care kids to make sure that they are really washing their hands correctly. At the top of this post are some pictures showing how MRSA can start and what it looks like. These are the things that will keep MRSA away.

The importance of a colonoscopy

Every year doctors urge their patients to have a yearly colonoscopy. This test helps detect hidden cancerous polups that will turn in to cancer later on. The test involves inserting a thin flexible tube with a small camera, which allows the doctors to see inside of the entire length of the colon. There is also a new virtual colonoscopy that is available to patients that will also allow the doctors to see the entire colon. This procedure is not as invasive as the regular colonoscopy, but it is also just as accurate. There are other procedures that doctors can use to see inside of the colon to check for polups, but they are not as accurate. The reason why these other procedures like the sigmoidoscopy are not accurate is, because they do not allow the doctors to investigate the entire length of the colon. Many doctors warn their patientst about this fact, and about the importance of getting their entire colon viewed. The age for having this test done varies based on your family health history. Having the proper procedure is very important and making this choice could either save your life or possibly shorten it.

Super Tuesday!

I am definitely ready for a woman to be the President of the United States of America. Mostly because of what she is willing to fight for. She believes that the people of America should have national health insurance. I always thought that health insurance was affordable for people that could not afford the high premiums. I was definately wrong about that, because now that I am a single mother I have experienced nothing but a struggle to hold on to health insurance every year. For the first time in years last year my son and I spent 9 months without any health insurance and now the months are adding up for this year. I have had to spend most of my time worrying about these questions,"what if my son gets sick, what will I do?" I have realized during my dilema that there are hundreds of thousands of American citizens that work two to three jobs daily just to survive and they still cannot afford to pay for health insurance.

The sad thing is it does not matter if you are in good health and rarely go to the doctor, because if you do have health insurance it will go up every single year no matter what. I think that this is absolutely preposterous. Many people have fought and died in wars so that we can have the freedom that we all possess. I think that it is sad that there are countries like Canada that have already given their citizens national health insurance and that our great country only wants to offer their citizens so called affordable health insurance. The key word is affordable, but the question is who is it really affordable for? There are always people who do not have to worry about money so this is not even an issue for them. I believe that Barrack Obama is one of those people. He can never truely understand what it feels like to not be able to go to the doctor for a yearly check up or when you are really sick. Hilary Clinton sympathizes with the need and the urgency for us all to have health insurance and I believe that she should be the next President.

National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. has been helping with the fight against Breast Cancer for some years now. They are a non profit organization based in New York that helps aid women with awareness of the disease, and they also help the women who cannot afford to have yearly mammograms to get them free of charge. They also have educational videos that women can look at whenever they visit their website at http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/. I would like to commend them for contributing to such a worthy cause, and hopefully one day soon there wil be a cure.

Flu season

I work in the healthcare profession as a nursing assistant. This means that when flu season arrives I have to be extra cautious at my job. Even though I use extra precauions, I know that I can never be completely germ free. This means that I will get sick during this time of year. I wanted to make a statement to everyone out there that there are still genuinely kind people out there. I got off of work on Saturday feb 2 to stop and get some medication for my son and myself from the drugstore. The young cashier rang my items up and the total came up to be $26.68. I stated to the cashier that I was short on cash and that I would need to go to my car to get some more money. He replied," ok". I left my items at the register and walked away to my car with my head hanging low. I was not feeling very well, due to being sick and also being very tired from working all night.
Shortly, I came back into the store, and began to wait patiently behind the customer in front of me. After she grabbed her items and left I moved up to the register and began to hand the cashier the full total amount of my bill. He then stated to me that all of my items had been paid for. I stepped back in disbelief, because of his statement. I replied," no way here is the money. He then explained to me again that my bill had been taken care of. Still in disbelief I said,"wow thank you". I took my bag full of medication and walked out of the pharmacy with a great big smile. I will have to say that no matter how dreary and bleek the world seems to be there are still some wonderfully genuine people out there. I would like to thank the lady who was paying for her things when I came in.

Keep an eye on your symptoms

I wanted to explain what I meant by keeping an eye on your symptoms. It has been too often that people who do not have health insurance die a senseless death. If they had gone to see a physician their lives may have been spared. We all know that if you don't have the cash that you will get turned away by physicians the majority of the time. One thing that can help people is to keep track of how many symptoms they have and what they are. It is very important because, many times a major illness can be avoided if the smaller illness is treated. You can start following family remedies or doctors at home or over the counter treatments.

It is important for us all to know that you should discontinue the home treatments after seven days. If the symptoms persist and do not seem to be getting any better it is definitely advisable to see a doctor. In the late 1700's people did not know how to treat simple illnesses. An example of this is the death of George Washington. He died from the Streptococcal virus. The treatment that they used on him to help his illness was the main cause of his death. He was purposely bled because, in theory people of that time period thought that it was a wise decision to cut people and let them bleed out to get rid of the infection in the body. They failed to realize that this left the individual defenseless and weak. Their body could no longer fight the illness and they often died. Keeping an eye on whatever your symptoms may be is very much advised by many physicians. You can avoid making an unnecessary trip to the doctors office but doing so can save your life.

Coffee May lower the risk of Ovarion Cancer

A research study has shown that caffeine can in fact be good for lowering the risk of ovarian cancer. The study only proves that this theory only works for people that consume higher amounts of caffeine. lower amounts or decaff had no effect on the individuals that participated in the study. The risk is even lower for women who had not taken oral contraceptives or postmenopausal hormones. There was also no effect for women who smoked or drank alcoholic beverages. The tests were done on women from ages 30-35. There is still a lot more studying that needs to be done in order to warrant this case study. For now, all of us female coffee drinkers can just keep this in mind and really enjoy our cup of Joe.

Home made remedy

I have been suffering from an upset stomach often lately. I decided to follow an old remedy that was passed down from my grandmother. My mother explained to me that I need a natural internal antiseptic. To my surprise I tried the remedy and my upset stomach went away within two minutes. The ingredient that helped me with my dilemma is none other than simple apple cider vinegar.

It consists of two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and I felt it working all the way down from my throat to my stomach. You may feel a slight buzz after drinking the vinegar for some reason along with a slight burn. The burning only lasts for a second, but to me it is well worth the sacrifice as an all natural ingredient. I do not have to continuously take tums or pepto bismol. Going through this experience has shown me that it really pays to have an open mind.

Homeopathic ways for using Licorice

I found out while doing a live search on ChaCha.com that licorice can be used for something other than candy. Licorice is is normally used in candies like twizzlers, or jelly beans or gummy bears and other candies that I have not tried yet. There are in fact other uses for it. First of all, let me explain exactly what licorice is. Licorice is really a member of the pea family, and licorice root was used in ancient times as food and as a medicine. The Chinese used it in nearly all of their formulas to harmonize other separate herbs involved. Licorice contains an ingredient called glycyrrhizin. If this ingredient is taken in high doses the effects can be similar to those of the natural hormone aldosterone, which can cause fluid retention, increase blood pressure, and loss of potassium. To prevent this from happening now a days manufactures have found a way to remove glycyrrhizin from licorice, which produces the safer product delcyrrhizinated licorice.

Licorice is used today for treatment of an array of medical diseases or disorders. It has been used as a replacement of hydrocortizone in the treatment of eczema, ulcer treatment and ulcer prevention. The studies show that it can prevent ulcers cased by aspirin or other anti inflammatory drugs. As with the use of taking any type of drug there are some risks involved that you should know about. If you are taking digoxin, long term use of taking licorice can be very dangerous. Continued use of licorice can cause loss of fluid and potassium. The use of licorice can increase positive and negative effects for people who use corticosteroid treatments. It is not advised to use licorice internally when taking corticosteroids. I think that we are all just starting to find out what people did with herbs that we aren't very familiar with. I am always ready to learn new things.

Depression drug

First of all, I would like to begin by explaining a little bit about what depression is along with some of he symptoms. Depression is described as a profound feeling of sadness and a loss of interest. Some of the symptoms include are, feelings of worthlessness, excessive inappropriate feelings of guilt, thoughts of death or suicide, trouble making decisions, fatigue or lack of energy, sleeping too much or too little, change in appetite or weight, trouble concentrating, Aches and pains, restlessness, loss of enjoyment of favorite activities.

One of the latest drugs that is used to help fight the symptoms of depression is a drug called Cymbalta. Before being prescribed for the use of Cymbalta the company asks that you take a self assessment test. If you have answered all of the questions that they ask about the symptoms you have been experiencing correctly then they advise a visit to your doctor to discuss treatment. During this visit the doctor may offer relief from medication to help with this problem. They may offer you the drug Cymbalta or one like it. So far it is one of the best drugs out there to help ease the pain of depression with low risk of suicidal thoughts. Life can finally go on for people who suffer from this problem thanks to the makers of this drug.

Healthcare Crisis

I just wanted to discuss in great detail about the big health-care crisis we are all facing today. First of all, how many Americans actually have health insurance at a reasonable rate? Not any, of us are paying less than $80 a month for a single person that is acquiring health insurance, and if you have children you can definitely forget about spending less than $180 per month. Basically, if you do not have any health insurance in this country you definitely have to suffer the dyer consequences. For instance, most people who don’t have insurance usually have bad health and don’t even realize it, due to the fact that they rarely go to the doctor for yearly physicals. Who can afford to visit the doctor without any kind of insurance to back them up. What we are all in need of is national health insurance.

It’s amazing that there are other countries not as great as the U.S. that have offered there citizens this important opportunity. Our congress put it in to motion so that our children could get free national health insurance. It was especially targeted to middle class America, because they earn to much to get medicaid, but earn to little to acquire health insurance. These are usually the children that suffer the consequences. Our great President Bush squashed the bill twice. I have to say that is one of the most selfish things anyone could have done. Instead he sent billions to go towards the war in Iraq. Hopefully we as a people will elect someone who cares about this terrible health crisis, before it is too late.

New way of eradicating cancer

There may be a future way of destroying cancer without the use of chemotherapy. On a segment of Dr. Sanjay Gupta's weekend show house call, a man named John Kanzius may have found a more humane way of fighting cancer. He is retired in Sanibel Island and instead of relaxing he is currently suffering from leukemia. He worked in the radio industry, and came up with a theory for helping others suffering with cancer. He got out his wife's pots and pans along with some transmitters and started to build a machine. Then he took his invention to his oncologist.

Mr. Kanzius's invention is very interesting and will make a huge turn around in cancer treatment everywhere. His Oncologist took the invention to a cancer surgeon and he also agrees that this could change everything. Mr. Kanzius's cancer invention works by injecting microscopic metal pieces into the cancerous tumors, and then direct radio waves in that will heat up the metal, which will burn up the cancer cells destroying them. The doctors have realized that Mr. Kanzius's invention can treat many different types of cancer, except one as severe as the one that he is suffering from, because leukemia is cancer of the blood making the cancer cells to be virtually everywhere. This makes treating this type of cancer with his invention difficult to do right now. It will take four to six years for his invention to be upgraded and go through patenting. Hopefully with time Mr. Kanzius might find a way to fix his invention to also work for leukemia patients as well.

Hair tonics

Today I wanted to talk about the latest hair tonics in the hair care industry. Everyday either on the Internet or on television you see different types of advertisements about miracle hair treatments. Some of these treatments come in the form of vitamins and others come in the form of a topical hair fertilizer. These topical treatments can be very costly and if you read the fine print that is towards the bottom of the product it will say that typical results may not be proven. Many of these products are not FDA approved and just do not help at all.

I do believe that the hair vitamins can be beneficial to people who have some deficiencies. Some of these so called hair tonics can also make your hair fall out. I had an aunt who relied on using hair tonics a few years ago to help her get back some fullness in her hair or to repair a small bald spot, and with time the area became her entire middle scalp. She now has to wear hair pieces or maybe get a hair transplant one day. I think using hair products are great when they are FDA approved, because if you sustain any damage from taking the product then you can sue the company properly. It is difficult to do this when you use a product that states in very fine printing that results may not be too typical.
